The curriculum at Bayside College is based around the 8 National Learning Areas, and Sport. This is the recommended structure from the Department of Education and works on the basis of the Curriculum and Standards Framework, (CSF II), for years Prep -10. CSF II describes what students should know and be able to do at various stages of their primary and secondary education.

It also enables Bayside College to provide information its community about expected outcomes of each student. The subjects comprising the 7 to 10 curriculum are given below:-

The Timetable

The timetable at Bayside College runs over a two-week period (10 days). On the junior campuses each student has 6 periods per day, which total 60 periods per fortnight. The timetable is divided in to two parts, one per week. The first week is known as Gold week and the second is Green week. The timetable alternates between these two weeks for the duration of the school year.

Subject Selection

Students take at least one subject from each Key Learning Area (KLA) and Sport. Some of the Key Learning Areas consist of only one subject, such as English or Mathematics, while others like Art or Technology cover a range of subjects.

Different classes start in term one and end in term two. While other subjects begin in term three and end in term four. These subjects are all part of the Key Learning Areas that consist of many subjects. All the learning areas that consist of one subject run for four terms. Physical Education and Commerce are the only exceptions. Each of these subjects are part of separate Learning Areas, but in some year levels they run for a full four terms. Sport Education runs for four terms in each year level, however, at the end of each term students are free to choose a different sport from a wide selection. This is done by preference and most students receive their first or second preference.

Languages Other Than English (LOTE), is the only other subject - besides Sport - where students are able to have a choice in subjects activities. The are three LOTE subjects to choose based around what students are offered in the local primary school, Arabic, Italian and Japanese. Most students are able to get their first preference and they are required to remain in that subject until the end of year 10.
